Description
The Triple Door is pleased to continue our partnership with Remy-Cointreau to bring you the European portion of the series. Starting on Tuesday, October 5th and continuing every Tuesday until Oct 26th in the Triple Door Musicquarium, we launch the Speakeasy Series: PARIS with Live Music + Classic Film + Vintage Cocktails. The sixth edition of our Speakeasy series pays tribute to the City of Light, one of the most romantic and best loved cities in the world.
What better way to celebrate this undeniably wonderful city than with two of the most classic films shot there: René Clair’s "Sous les toits de Paris" (Under the Roofs of Paris) and Jacques Becker's "Casque d'Or."
Our resident mixologist Brian McKay has updated the vintage cocktail list for this series with some outstanding new additions. Vunt Foom, the instrumental version of lounge favortite Theoretics, will provide musical accompaniment. Films will start at 9pm, music at 9:30.
About Vunt Foom:
Vunt Foom is a true musical organism, displaying a level of musical communication, spontaneity and versatility that can only be described as pro. Performing with the swagger of a downtown MC, the soul of a Philadelphia rhythm section, the searing solos of early fusion and the body-moving affect of London Junglists, Vunt Foom is certainly not for the fainthearted.
BIRCH PEREIRA: Bass... ADAM GROSS: Drums... BEN KRULEWITCH: Keyboards...CAMERON PEACE: Guitar.... ART BROWN... Saxophone

The Films:
Casque d'Or
Jacques Becker 1952
94 Min
Jacques Becker lovingly evokes the belle epoque Parisian demimonde in this classic tale of doomed romance. When gangster’s moll Marie (Simone Signoret) falls for reformed criminal Manda (Serge Reggiani), their passion incites an underworld rivalry that leads inexorably to treachery and tragedy. With poignant, nuanced performances and sensuous black-and-white photography, Casque d’or (Golden Marie) is Becker at the height of his cinematic powers—a romantic masterpiece.
"Sous les toits de Paris" (Under the Roofs of Paris)
René Clair
1930
92 min
In René Clair’s irrepressibly romantic portrait of the crowded tenements of Paris, a street singer and a gangster vie for the love of a beautiful young woman. This witty exploration of love and human foibles, told primarily through song, captures the flamboyant atmosphere of the city with sophisticated visuals and groundbreaking use of the new technology of movie sound. An international sensation upon its release, Under the Roofs of Paris is an exhilarating celebration of filmmaking and one of France’s most beloved cinematic exports.
