Billy Brandt

Genre: Jazz

Seattle-based songwriter, Billy Brandt, is an alley cat singer and steel-toed storyteller. Standing as the steam rises from the street’s sewer grate, this squinting-eyed, herring bone newsboy cap-wearing lyricist reports on what he sees: a melancholy and malleable city with bents equally toward invention and woebegone worries.

But the musician maintains love in his heart. Though, like any working class fellow, he makes no room for fools. With a voice like a horn resurfaced from a trunk got off a rough deal, Brandt observes as his band buoys behind him. Inspired by the vast and varied talent in Seattle, Brandt values collaboration, hand-in-hand, side-by-side, and is often playing with some of the Emerald City’s best.

While the poetic-crooner has won many years playing in Seattle, gracing prominent stages like the Triple Door and the Columbia City Theater, fans are eager for his latest release, the eight-song LP, City Noir. The raindrop-glistening record offers Brandt’s most sincere talents as pulp writer, performer and elegant singer, as well as his biggest step forward as an artist, proving honesty and craft always win the day.

Brad Gibson Duo

Genre: Drummer , Jazz

"Contemplative and just a little wayward, Gibson does it again on his latest project, giving the listener plenty to think about and plenty to hold onto. Epilogue / procession may have been recorded in 2014 through the artist residency program at Jack Straw Cultural Center, but the musicians let fly with an intimate immediacy that never gets old."

Freudian Slurp

Genre: Funk , Fusion , Jazz

The Hughes Brothers, Dylan (bass, older) and Ian (guitar, taller) grew up in the middle of North Seattle’s competitive student jazz scene but they were mostly discouraged by all that noise and came up playing grunge and prog rock with garage bands instead.  A love of instrumental music and the local jam session scene sprung from this. The brothers met current band members through these sessions and were inspired by the thriving instrumental music scene in Seattle to find their own sound.
